Milkiyas Toru Tantu is an Assistant Professor in Medical Microbiology with a solid background in research and teaching. He holds a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from Jimma University and a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Hawassa University, both in Ethiopia. Over his career at Debre Markos University (Ethiopia), he has supervised students and led research in clinical microbiology, teaching a range of topics including bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology.
Milkiyas is skilled in molecular diagnostics, managing laboratory operations, and has led studies on key health issues like antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis in HIV patients, and COVID-19. He has published several peer-reviewed journals on infectious diseases and diagnostic microbiology in relevant international journals. His technical skills include RT-PCR, ELISA, and data analysis, which strengthen his impact in clinical research.
At The Shiddiky Laboratory at Charles Sturt University, Milkiyas will focus on developing new diagnostic tools for metabolic diseases. Working with Professors Muhammad J. A. Shiddiky and Allen G. Ross, he will expand his expertise to tackle critical healthcare challenges through advanced research in disease management.
