Welcome, Dr Sharmin Aktar
We are pleased to welcome Dr Sharmin Aktar to the Shiddiky Lab at Charles Sturt University! Dr Aktar joins us as an early-career researcher, bringing with her strong experience in molecular biology and a commitment to improving healthcare diagnostics.
Dr Aktar completed her PhD at the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University, where she focused on colorectal cancer. Her research aimed to understand how tumor cells behave at a molecular level, specifically looking for genetic markers that might be targeted by immunotherapy. This work could help make cancer treatment more personalized and effective in the future. During her PhD, she learned advanced lab techniques that will be key in our research here at the Shiddiky Laboratory. Before her PhD, she worked as a lecturer and assistant professor in Bangladesh, where she taught courses in metabolism, molecular biology, and immunology. She also supervised students in their research and earned several research grants to support her projects.
Dr Aktar also has experience in environmental health from her master’s studies at the University of Rajshahi. She researched the effects of arsenic exposure on health and conducted fieldwork in areas affected by arsenic. This work shows her commitment to tackling diverse public health challenges.
At the Shiddiky Laboratory, Dr Aktar will focus on developing advanced tools for early disease detection. Her skills in molecular biology are a perfect fit for our lab’s goal of making healthcare diagnostics more precise and accessible. She will lead and collaborate on projects that could improve early disease detection, especially for complex conditions. With her background in cancer genetics, immunology, and environmental health, along with her dedication to teaching and collaboration, Dr Aktar is a great addition to our team. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of her work on healthcare diagnostics.
Welcome, Dr Aktar!
